downtownfrombehind (DFB) is a photographic series capturing subjects riding their bike from behind on some 200+ streets, avenues and lanes below 14th street in New York City.
The result is an environmental portrait for each street and subject with a goal to highlight a set of individuals, emerging and established, each uniquely contributing; culturally, socially and physically, to make this part of the city what it is today.
The project has been widely covered in the press, from New York Times, Huffington Post, Coolhunting, Vogue, Nylon Magazine and many blogs (thankyou).
Subjects photographed to date include industrial designers, architects, creative directors, restauranteurs, entrepreneurs, hoteliers, artists and academics.

GREENE STREET, Jeanie Syfu, Hair Stylist for Downtownfrombehind.
Chances are Jeanie looks familiar. She’s the national Spokeswomen for TREsemme, plays herself in Dirty Little Secret (a graphic online web series following six of NYC’s most connected women around the Big Apple, check elle.com), appeared on Project Runway and recently secured the lead stylist position on new Bravo program, The Fashion Show; Ultimate Collection. Her work has appeared in Vogue, Allure, Glamour, InStyle and Rolling Stone (amongst others) and has collaborated with leading creative visionaries, from Annie Leibovitz, Fernando Milani and Sarah Silver to fashion designers Donna Karan, Narciso Rodriguez and Girogio Armani. A (modest) stylist to the stars, Jeanie has without doubt styled more downtown kids than there is enough space to credit her for(!) DFB.
